Common Delight

Common Delight is a multimedia project created in Communication Design 2. The project consisted of a zine, two motion posters, along with a short video that captured the mood of my zine. The project was based off combining two things, an (assigned) artist along with a chosen topic. In my case, my chosen topic was beauty standards in Korea. Through this project, I expressed the extreme and unrealistic beauty standards of Korea.
Learning Outcomes:
At first, there were a lot of questions I asked to myself like the ability to be able to "combine" two topics. I believe that I learned many things through this, like being able to express my voice and my opinions through my idea along with experimenting with different media to be able to create something representative of my topic.

Throughout my zine, I use doodles that express the beauty related procedures, such as plastic surgery related stitches and procedures. I also express standards generally seen in Korea, such as head size or proportions. These doodles are shown throughout my zine.

I took imagery of images related to beauty standards and procedures once again and express this within my contrasting idea.

Some process photos taken for my contrasting idea! Using my friend as a model, I was able to create imagery of unrealistic beauty standards along with imagery of Korea's most "beautiful" women projected onto my friends face gauzed up.

Another part of the project that was assigned where we were asked to create motion posters that looped. I used imagery of my opposing idea and expressed the unrealistic standards not only through the image but music as well.

The AR filter to the left shows a filter representing my contrasting idea. Shows phrases and words that my fellow korean friends and I have heard from people and relatives regarding our physical appearance along with a heavily edited and exaggerated face to show the effects of these comments. The right filter shows a filter representing my artist, Marina Abramovic and a fun interactive question AR filter.
