First Peoples Cultural Festival

This is a festival identity design project for the First Peoples Cultural Festival to celebrate National Indigenous History Month in Canada. It is a modern reinterpretation of their historical culture to remind people of Aboriginal history and promote the unique culture of ethnic minorities. The typeface design is developed by reinterpreting aboriginal culture and art by expressing a sense of boldness yet delicacy to represent indigenous people's dignity and craftsmanship.

Symbols also play a huge role in their culture, where they can be an alternate way to write stories of cultural significance, teaching survival and land use. Thus, I created animal and plant symbols, including a totem pole, cactus, thunderbird, bear footprint, lizard, and eagle hair. When it comes to the color system, a combination of black and solid vibrant colors portrays Canadian aboriginal artwork's boldness and strong contrasting details.
