The Jimi Effect

The brief for this project was to make a timeline of every song that was the song of the week for the week of my birthday from 1940 to 2023 and design an informational poster with a focus on a certain aspect. I chose to highlight the two artists that appeared on the list that are known to have been influenced by Jimi Hendrix in their various music styles, in order to focus on Jimi Hendrix's influence on all styles of music.
Learning Outcomes:
From this project I learned how techniques such as using various visual elements to groups various informational elements, creating color coding systems and some form of legend, and creating a clear system that maximizes the ability of any reader to fully understand and connect with all the information displayed. I also learned how to do this effectively while still achieving a maximalist design approach while maintaining the balance of a clear informational system.
The design features a timeline on the left that is color coded by genre that corresponds to the genre names and colors on the right, where the genres that Jimi was influenced by are listed above and the genres he influenced are listed below. In the middle there is a Jimi Hendrix timeline that details facts about him and his life. In the top right there is a brief description of who Jimi Hendrix was and on the bottom right there's a small section explaining what the 27 club is and who the members are, as Jimi Hendrix is one as well.
