International Film Fest of Berlin

For this project I decided to rebrand the International Film Fest of Berlin and propose a new venue that feels traditional to pay homage to a past director Andrei Tarkovsky. I took inspiration from Tarkovsky's history with film and his country, being exiled and longing to return to it. This brand system pays respect to a man who was a huge influence in the film industry

The color palette was pulled directly from Berlin using the colors of their sky, geography, and one of Tarkovsky's movies, Stalker. I shortened the name to be the monogram iffb with overlapping f’s to show the motion of a reel as it spins in 35mm cinema film. The graphic elements used are dashes to symbolize the sprockets of traditional film.

I designed a short publication as a giveaway for the festival. The publication briefly introduces Tarkovsky's history, his movies, and his exile. Taking scenes from the movies Stalker & Solaris I converted them into screenplays with scenes and timestamps using the 16x9 ratio that is used in cinema.

The next part of this project was seeing how this identity would translate into the print and spatial world. Using the Imagery from his movie sets and color palette from Stalker, I designed with the intention to highlight the man behind the camera. Placing the spatial banner on St Hedwig's Cathedral.
