Black women face 3-4 times higher risk of pregnancy-related death compared to white women. The US lacks standardized postpartum care, potentially contributing to 53% of maternal deaths. JAMA review shows continuous 6-week postpartum care significantly reduces emergency visits. Despite available resources, Black mothers lack access, hindering self-advocacy. Often, mothers prioritize their baby's needs over their own, leading to postpartum complications and depression.
