Alternative Input Systems in XR

This VR prototype investigates technical capabilities for unconventional input methods in virtual environments. By implementing stretchy materials, proximity-based interactions, and soft-body physics, the project tests what's achievable in current VR systems. The resulting test environment explores how VR technology can expand beyond controller-based interactions.
Learning Outcomes:
This technical study revealed practical constraints and opportunities within existing VR development frameworks. By focusing on implementing alternative input mechanisms rather than conceptual exploration, the project established a foundation of technical knowledge about material properties and interaction possibilities in virtual spaces. These findings informed later conceptual work by demonstrating which types of nuanced interactions could be reliably implemented with current technology.
