Reveal of identity

This project is a ceramic sculpture that incorporates a lighting element. The story is from the Homeric Hymn to Hermes: Hermes’ birth to the nymph Maia and Zeus. Hermes had a desire to taste beef—something not meant for a god—suggesting an underlying anxiety about mortality, both his mother Maia’s and possibly his own. The moment is when he cooked the beef and not able to eat it—reveals his divine identity. Course: Ceramic Future Lighting Instructor: Ariel Brice, Penny Herscovitch
Learning Outcomes:
For the first time, I learned techniques of hand-building, working with larger-scale sculptures, and designing and building a light with a functioning sensor. I developed my project management skills due to the need for a larger ceramic piece to dry slowly and to be ready for any emergency situations, such as clay cracking and fixing.
