Water and Wood Title Reveal

This title reveal for Wood & Water explores the emotional distance between a mother and son through fragmented typography. Instead of presenting the title clearly, only partial letterforms appear at first, creating visual ambiguity that mirrors their misunderstanding. As the sequence unfolds, the fragments gradually shift and align, yet never fully resolve—reflecting the film’s open ending and the uncertainty of their relationship.

Process:

I began by exploring how abstraction could communicate emotion without becoming literal. Through experimentation with fragmentation, masking, and timing, I studied how type can function as narrative rather than static information. The focus was on allowing absence, spacing, and movement to carry meaning.

Learning Outcomes:

This project deepened my understanding of typography as a storytelling tool rather than just a communication device. I learned how pacing, rhythm, and negative space can create emotional tension, and how incomplete visual systems can intentionally reflect narrative.
