Remains

I’ve always been drawn to the eerie and macabre aspects of life. I find it interesting when people react negatively to inevitable suffering. When I suffer, I am reminded of everything I am grateful for. When life gets unbearable, death feels like the only option. Perspectives can only change if we choose to move. Ultimately we have no choice but to radically accept the realities of life– if we want to live we must change with time. This series talks about things left behind in tragedy. When grieving Altadena, I noticed, amongst all the debris and loss, what remained were mailboxes. Homes, community, and normalcy were obliterated. Here I have documented remanence of what was once there. Materials that outlast life itself carry on memories. In death, what’s left behind is a head stone or mailbox. In both instances, communication is not lost.
