Illustrations

A collection of illustrations inspired by theories and principles of quantum mechanics in order to depict an array of different story moments or a concept.

Process:

Each piece starts with a concept, thumbnail sketches, and research in order to create the finalized work.

Learning Outcomes:

Throughout these pieces I learned how to refine my digital work flow by exploring new textures to help simulate traditional mark making with a surrealistic approach to story telling.

"Cheshire Cat Encounter" depicts a meeting between a three-headed Cheshire Cat and Alice. The quantum mechanics theory of superposition is used as inspiration to create a surrealistic feeling.
Image
"Conversations with Caterpillar" depicts the caterpillar as he recites the poem, "How Doth the Little Crocodile" to Alice. The quantum mechanics theory of multiple consciousnesses is used as inspiration to create a surrealistic feeling.
Image
“March of the Cards” depicts a Queen of Hearts’ playing card painting the roses red with a simultaneous counterpart reflected in a parallel dimensional space. The quantum mechanics theory of a 4th dimensional tesseract is used as inspiration to create a surrealistic feeling.

“Time Loop Scene (1)" shows Miss Dobson’s ability to maintain a constant time loop alongside the Peculiar Children, the Volfrad siblings.
Image
“Time Loop Scene (2)” shows the trio witnessing the time loop’s vivid color.
Image
"4th Dimensional Battle (1)" depicts a confrontation between the Volfrad siblings and the 4th dimensional behemoth. Concepts such as dimensional portals and string theory are used as super powers.
