Proper Provisions

Proper Provisions is a curated pantry product collection created for Proper Hotels, designed to extend the brand experience beyond the hotel stay. The product extension line reimagines pantry staples as elevated, wellness-driven objects rooted in ritual and everyday luxury. This first collaboration is inspired by the Mediterranean flavors and culinary identity of the restaurant, Calabra, in Santa Monica. 

Process:

The project involved developing a packaging system that reflected Proper’s ethos of uncommon luxury through thoughtful materiality, sustainable design, and tactile craftsmanship. Inspired by the hotel’s interior architecture and sensory brand experience, the collection was prototyped through hands-on fabrication, material exploration, and collaborative concept development.

Learning Outcomes:

Through this project, I strengthened my ability to collaborate closely with another designer, learning how to communicate ideas effectively and work toward a shared creative vision while balancing multiple perspectives throughout the design process.

The future collections for Proper Provisions will bring new collaborations from across the Proper family, each offering its own culinary perspective to expand the range of sophisticated flavors, seasonal ingredients, and chef-guided creativity to enjoy at home.
The tactile design decisions of embossed ceramic bottles, custom wooden caps, canvas fabric seals, and natural fiber paper, reflects the same attention to detail found within the hotel environment, creating a sense of cohesion between space and object.
The art direction draws from the essence of a shared table at home, using lifestyle photography to highlight the warmth, hospitality, and everyday ritual of connecting through food.
Each product tells a story through its ingredients. Highlighting the wellness benefits while offering thoughtful flavor pairings and serving instruction that guide the user toward a more intentional culinary experience.
The online activation and social media extends the Proper Provisions experience with seasonal menus featuring each product, alongside a guide to Proper table-setting as inspiration that encourages thoughtful cooking, gathering, and hospitality.
The product display stages Proper Provision's products within curated shelves inspired by the hotel’s interior design, paired with woven tote bags to create a cohesive retail experience.
The product design is inspired by the materials, textures, and details found throughout the Hotel's interior spaces, such as warm wood, soft textiles, natural light and refined forms.
