Knight VS Dragon

A large (22x30'') colored pencil illustration depicting the timeless struggle between knights and dragons. This time, the dragon clearly has the upper hand

Process:

I first laid out the composition of the dragon in graphite pencil on a large sheet of Strathmore 500 series 3-ply bristol plate (smooth, not vellum). Then, after a few digital color studies and experiments, I got to work rendering the whole thing with a selected layered palette of prismacolor pencils. Once finished, I used an exacto knife to cut out the entire dragon. At this point, I decided to add the knight, which was created with the exact same process and pasted in with Nori paste.

Learning Outcomes:

This pushed the limits of the medium of colored pencils for me, especially in scale. I also have been on a personal quest to draw the "perfect dragon" based on my own list of aesthetic criteria. This is the closest I have come to that goal.
