Gold Rush is a 2D platform puzzle game, or you could say it's a Metroidvania-style game, as the map exploration and ability acquisition are largely inspired by those types of games.
On the surface, the game appears to be about a miner exploring a destructible underground world, using a drill to mine various blocks and collect gold coins. The player needs to meet a daily gold coin target and deliver them to the foreman.
In reality, the player is searching for their older brother who ran away from home to mine for gold. The player will collect information in various corners of the mine and gradually uncover the truth – the gold rush was caused by a greedy demon, and defeating him is the only way to truly solve the problem! (And the player's brother is possessed by this demon...)
Unlike traditional RPGs, the player in Gold Rush has no ability to fight back against monsters; their only ability is environmental destruction. Therefore, the player needs to learn to use this ability to create death traps for their opponents (monsters), using pre-planned routes and timely evasive maneuvers to make them "willingly" walk into the pre-set traps, take damage, and ultimately die.
