A Countryside Book

A strange book that attempts to capture the essence of the English Countryside in all of it's well-manicured folkloric weirdness.

Process:

This was a term long project that I have yet to finish. I grew up in Somerset county in the UK, and have always been fascinated by England's ancient landscape. This book project follows a series of seasonal strolls taken by an unnamed rambler, and chronicles the odd encounters they have with whispering animals, talking stone heads, and spirits of the land.

Learning Outcomes:

This project taught me a great deal about making books, and Senior Projects provided a wonderful bit of sanctioned creative freedom here at ArtCenter that was perfect to give me the space I needed to create something that felt very personal and strange. I'm still considering this a work in progress, and hope to see it refined and finished some day soon.

Sport fox hunting still regularly occurs in the English countryside, despite being illegal. There are plenty of loopholes to exploit and people believe it is their right as countryfolk

Both hares and rabbits were introduced to England from mainland Europe in the 1st Century by the invading Romans. I just learned that recently
