WALLS OF LA

WALLS OF LA is a web-based publication that documents and organizes graffiti and street art across Los Angeles. The project focuses on structuring visual content through location and color, creating an intuitive system for exploration while highlighting the diversity of urban expression.

Process:

The project began by identifying how to structure unorganized visual content. Graffiti locations were mapped and categorized to establish a clear spatial framework for navigation.

A visual system was developed to organize works by dominant color, enabling an alternative browsing layer that prioritizes aesthetic discovery over traditional categorization.

Multiple layout and interaction approaches were explored to balance spatial context with visual clarity. The final direction emphasizes a minimal interface that allows the artwork to remain the primary focus.

Learning Outcomes:

– Structuring unorganized visual data into a navigable system
– Designing dual-layer exploration through location and color
– Balancing content density with visual clarity in a publication format
