LA Music Venues: iPad listening experience

LA Music Venues is an interactive iPad data visualization that lets you explore and compare how a song sounds across five iconic LA venues — the Troubadour, the Greek, Hollywood Bowl, the Forum, and Crypto Arena. Each venue is represented by its seat map and acoustic characteristics, and users can listen through headphones or their own speaker system to feel the difference in scale, intimacy, and sound design.

Process:

I designed and prototyped the full experience in Figma, building out each venue's seat map, acoustic details, and a comparison mode that lets you toggle between two venues while the same song plays. The design challenge was making something inherently sonic feel visually meaningful — using seat density, venue shape, and color to communicate scale and character before you even hit play.

Learning Outcomes:

This project pushed me to design for a sense that isn't visual — translating sound and space into an interactive experience. It sharpened my data visualization instincts and reminded me that the best data experiences make you feel something, not just understand something.
