Hyu is a ceramic charcuterie board designed for HAY that improves how people share food. The surface has soft grooves that keep food from spilling or rolling and help everything stay in place. These grooves also lift dry foods like crackers so they do not touch moisture from fruits or olives. Its simple, rounded form fits HAY’s style and allows multiple boards to stack and work together, creating a clean and easy way to serve and enjoy food with others. The process started with sketching and refining the form to define the grooves and overall shape. Ceramic molding was used to create and adjust the final design, testing proportions and surface details. Then glaze options were explored to find colors and finishes that fit HAY’s style. The result is a simple and functional design that balances form, material, and use.
This project helped develop a stronger understanding of branding by designing within the visual language of HAY and learning how to keep forms simple and intentional. It also built hands on experience with ceramic molding, including shaping, refining surface details, and understanding how material affects form. The process highlighted how small design decisions can impact both function and overall user experience.
