Live the End

Live the End ┃A Sacred Place for the Religiously Unaffiliated

Process:

A series of sacred communal spaces of relief for the religiously unaffiliated in fear of mortality. To experience the natural transitional cycle of our living environment and understand the permanence of transitions. When a soul believes in the impermanent nature of life, one can truly own a belief system that relieves.

Located in the heart of the Sumida River in Asakusa, Japan, it seamlessly connects the two Sumida parks at opposite ends of the Sumida boardwalk. What was formerly known as a “River of Death” is now a symbol of life with multiple lifestyle complexes. Project ‘Live the End’ supports its transitional cycle by serving as public and private spaces for navigating between matter, dietary, and sectional transitions across air, ground, and underwater.

With respect to the sacred waters, existing materials surrounding the site were utilized to convey the natural progression of time and environmental conditions. The decay and growth in materiality symbolize signs of life and allow us to experience the erosion and emergence of beauty that arises by nature.
