Lost LA Poster

This assignment is designed to further the students skills in developing a formal graphic language, conceptual interpretation, typographic usage, composition, and sequential story telling. Conceptual thinking and problem solving is emphasized along with formal design issues including scale relationships, legibility, and effective communication. The importance and usage of typography, photography, illustration, and abstraction (aka for- mal explorations) will also be explored.
Learning Outcomes:
I learned: 1. How to create a composition that is strong on its own, or when split into three parts. The use of connecting elements / threads between the individual components of a triptych help achieve continuity. 2. How to prepare a large-scale document for print (these posters were 24 x 36 in each). 3. The importance of legibility when including large paragraphs of body text within a poster.

Triptych Mockup My design solution is a digital collage that strives to combine seemingly separate aspects of city life and the natural locale within the confines of a single composition. Drawing inspiration from the archival emphasis of the show, this triptych collage incorporates clippings from vintage Los Angeles postcards, imagery of flora and fauna that are native to the local environment, and objects that reflect the phenomenon of rush-hour traffic (and the concept of commuting in general) in our city. The desired result was to create a triptych design that is both formally engaging and conceptually symbolic. The selection and arrangement of each element in this triptych was done so in a way that conveys vibrancy in both natural and urban forms. The city is not merely a polluted concrete jungle, but is also a place filled with beautiful moments of natural sights and sounds that remind us that nature is always there — we just need to know where and when to look for it.
