BFA in Graphic Design — Graphic DesignStill I Rise
A visual study and interpretation of Maya Angelou's "Still I Rise." Maya Angelou's Still I Rise is a poem about the beauty and resilience of black people and the systematic discrimination we face. I created this Layout Design inspired by the poem's similes and her pride as a black woman. I wanted to create a project that explored typography in rhythm. The typography exploration complements the structure of the poem "Still I Rise" rhyme scheme broken into uneven stanzas.
Learning Outcomes:
I learned how to organize my thoughts and dig deeper into the reasons behind some of my design choices. Aesthetics is important, but I was trying not to let aesthetics solely drive me to the result. I learned that researching an initial inspiration can lead to great explorations in design. Had I not dug deep into "Still I Rise," I believed my design would not have been as successful.
