Typographic Structures in 6 Phases - Typographical Journeys Book

"Typographic Structures in 6 Phases" is a book comprised of 60 type-based exercises that were completed over the course of 8 weeks. Each set of studies had its own parameters to follow, which are described on the dividing pages at the beginning of each section. Phases 1-4 are based on Erik Brandt's "Ficciones Typografika" project, and phases 5-6 are based on Neville Brody and Jon Wozencroft's "Fuse" typefaces.
Learning Outcomes:
This was a challenging project that culminated in a very rewarding final deliverable. Most importantly, I learned that in order to break the rules of type, you must have a solid understanding of the fundamental rules of typography. Good experimental typists are successful because they know how to manipulate typographic rules in an intentional manner. Designs that may seem chaotic or sporadic are essentially built upon the fundamental rules of typography.
