Back To The Frame

This project was created in 2021 and 2022, and it is my undergraduate senior thesis project. is about the Chinese artifacts in Freer Gallery. I always had interest in how Chinese artifacts arrived at American museum and how people should treat them. Therefore, I made research on the journey of Chinese artifacts and the current museum label system for foreign objects. After the research I designed a book and recorded the research outcomes.
Learning Outcomes:
Through this project I learned how to incorporate research in a graphic design project. It taught me that graphic design is not only about the visuals, and there is more things I can do as graphic designer than just creating things to fulfill clients' demand. I also think this project has the potential to be extended in the future.

To create the feeling of revealing something that already existed but was kept away from the public, I tried to print different content on the front and back sides of the paper, and both contents will reveal when the sunlight shines through the paper. The pattern was inspired by Ding ware patter, a type of Chinese ceramics.
