Modular Typeface: BUN
I was assigned to design a basic uppercase and lowercase alphabet (A–Z, a–z) using modules built from the primary forms (●, ▲, ■) and combinations thereof. My ideation began by building a modular concept design typeface named BUN, as it is inspired by the shapes and forms of bread buns.
Learning Outcomes:
I set three designed modules based on the primary forms: circles, triangles, and squares, and defined the proportions of my letters as normal san serif typeface. Each letter consists of one or more modules that are rotated, flipped and overlapped. Working within a modular method helped me to understand the architecture of letterforms and the modularity, coherence, and harmony inherent to type design.
