Andres Solis is a Peruvian-American filmmaker specializing in screenwriting, editing, and analog video. He has written several short films, including Buried Above Ground, which was directed by former ArtCenter professor Anna Chi. The short is currently in post-production. Additionally, he co-wrote Ready Freddy with Dante Jigamian, an absurdist comedy feature about a man whose father is kidnapped by Amazon. Andres also works as a writing coach at the ArtCenter Writing Center where he gives feedback on essays, resumes, thesis papers and more. He is also the co-founder of The Writer’s Room, a student-led screenwriting club that simulates a TV writer’s room. This spring, it was formally adopted by the Writing Center, ensuring that it will continue on after he graduates. As an editor, Andres specializes in music videos with his distinct, maximalist style that uses analog video processes involving CRT TVs, video synths, and hi-8 tapes. He has shot, directed, and edited various music videos for bands and artists including Toon Town, DANTESNOTHERE, Abso Odd, and Billy Uomo. Andres is also experienced with VFX, sound design, and BTS and event photography and videography.

In his free time, Andres can be found making music under his producer alias Chasqui. His music incorporates guitar, bass, samplers, synths, and harmoniums and spans across several genres, including instrumental hip-hop, ambient, post-punk, noise rock and more. He can also be found writing poems or short stories. As a poet, he has hosted several poetry workshops and has worked alongside poet Dennis Phillips as a teacher’s assistant, helping critique students’ poetry. He is currently working on a short story collection about grotesque, stupid, and unaware male protagonists who find themselves in absurd predicaments that are equal parts hilarious and disturbing.
