About
My name is Mia Matzaganian but usually I go by Mia Matz. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and I was a self taught artist for 7 years before eventually applying to ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, CA. My purpose as an artist is to constantly ebb and flow, but at the end of it, I always want to create work that gives my viewers an experience. I enjoy most of all letting my audience lay back and have fun. I enjoy art that engages with the current environment, and that became something I wanted all of my pieces to do. Comedy in art is something that can be very hard execute because comedy is so incredibly subjective. With that being said, I love the gamble of some audiences being incapable of viewing my work as ironic, funny, or not to be taken seriously. My work actively critiques the professional environment it exists in, and that environment can be very serious. Making work that someone could look at and it makes them smile is the ultimate goal, and any deeper discourse changes piece of piece. I think the world is serious enough, and the art world can be even more serious. With that being said it's about time that people are able to sit back and enjoy viewing something that is tangible and unaware of the seriousness.
