Sunday's Best- How Black People Used Fashion As Protest And How It Influenced A Cultural Shift {Publication}

We were tasked with coming up with a book concept about Decolinzating the arts and producing a final physical book. I chose to focus on the influence of Black fashion, specifically protest fashion from the Civil Rights Movement. Using imagery, typography, and sequential design, I told the story of Black people and culture through a specific time period and used a cohesive, and dynamic system that reflected it.
Learning Outcomes:
In this class, I learned how to properly make a print-ready file for production. Tracey is an incredible teacher, and she has taught me a lot about the type, the feeling it can convey, and how to make a book feel the way the subject calls for it. I've also learned from both Tracey and Cheryl, to push beyond western design systems and ideologies that are so ingrained in design. This project has pushed me, and I discovered that I truly enjoy book design.
