BFA in Graphic Design — Graphic DesignThe Open Shelf
The Open Shelf is a student-led food pantry initiative at ArtCenter that provides free, accessible food resources in a welcoming and judgment-free environment. The project’s goal is to foster dignity, compassion, and community understanding around food insecurity.
The design process centered on creating an identity that communicates warmth, inclusivity, and approachability. Research into student needs and campus culture informed design choices like the bread tag-inspired logomark, bright color palette, and inviting typography.
This project strengthened the ability to design with empathy and social impact in mind. It demonstrated how thoughtful visual identity can reduce stigma, promote accessibility, and encourage community engagement through design.
