BS in Product Design — Product DesignTabi Camping Chair
Tabi is a camping chair designed with a focus on sustainability and simplicity. It uses organic cotton fabric and a minimal structure to reduce material complexity and streamline the manufacturing process.
The project considers the full product lifecycle, from production to end-of-life, with an emphasis on localizing materials and fabrication. We conducted a Life Cycle Assessment using LCA software to better understand and measure the environmental impact of the design.
By simplifying how the chair is made and assembled, Tabi aims to reduce environmental impact while maintaining comfort and usability in outdoor settings.
The process started by breaking down the chair’s full lifecycle, from material sourcing to manufacturing, use, and end-of-life. We used LCA software to map out emissions and environmental impact at each stage, helping us identify where the biggest impacts were coming from.
Learned how to evaluate environmental impact through LCA and use data to guide design decisions. Developed a better understanding of product lifecycle, material choices, and how manufacturing affects sustainability.
