Hopeless Restraint

Hopeless Restraint focuses on the Situationist International and a contrasting idea about experimental makeup. The Situationist International has pointed out the idea that the media controls us to want rather than need in order to impress others, speaks of a problem that many struggles with today. However, experimental makeup is about ignoring beauty standards and embracing self-expression. The zine is put together through research, self-created imagery, and exploration.
Learning Outcomes:
Through this project, I learn to create my own imagery that visually represents the article and the content. Imagery is able to spark interest in the audience and evoke emotions that help connect with the content.

First article. Title created through image scanning, representing the warping of reality. Chinese calligraphy is applied throughout the design to create cohesiveness, evoke chaotic emotions, and continue to quote phrases from Paris 68.

Process of image creating. The makeup is inspired by experimental makeup, which focuses on self-expression. This makeup represents my breaking through of societal normality. For instance, instead of wearing eyeshadow on my eyelid, I apply it to my undereye. I also used face paint to paint Chinese calligraphy on myself.
