Four Echoes (Lao He)

FEATURING CHARACTER 3 OF 4

Project is still WIP as of this upload - please view my website for the complete and finished work.

Project includes four characters in varying styles, as well as a quick introduction to their original worlds and lore. The Other World will be introduced & included as well.

Synopsis:
Four strangers. Four echoes. An impossible journey home. A rockstar, a viscount, a wanderer, and a demon — four echoes from distant worlds, drawn together by a force older than time. Cornered and forced into a realm where reality warps and monsters roam, they must confront the horrors that hunts them and seek a path home before it fades forever…

Process:

For my graduation project, I wanted to show viewers my full capability, which includes:

Character Design (Character Introduction, Outfit Ideation, Props/ Weapons), Visual Development (Stylization, Mood & Lighting), and Environmental Concepts (Set Design, Isometric View, Worldbuilding)

With that in mind, I aimed to create 4 characters of varying styles originating from four different worlds.

PROCESS
I started brainstorming for character origination and worldbuilding. and personality. This process includes the world / era / country they live in, the outfit they wear (practicality vs impracticality), the character build (age, musculature, personality), weapon / props (function, usage, movement) and environmental concepts (how the characters blend into the world they live in), and others.

After deciding on the direction, I started working with the following process:

1. Reference (Worldbuilding, Character Design)
2.. Character Ideation (Silhouettes, Outfits, Weapons), World Exploration (Stylization Techniques, Architecture, "Feel")
3. Deeper Exploration (Character - Movement, Poses, Expression | World - Props, Assets, Set Design)
4. Rendering (Important Assets for the Graduation Show are prioritized first for printing. Additional secondary materials can be added in the portfolio folder displayed later).

Learning Outcomes:

Time Management - Doing this project in a total of 13 weeks was awesome challenge.

Comfort Zone - learning which techniques I resonate with better, or which techniques emphasizes what aspects of the design.

Asset Creation - Working non-destructively for reusable assets. This will be converted to marketing materials (social media, handouts, postcards, portfolio-building) later on.
