GPRT-202 Communication Design 3: Narrative & Scale
Faculty:

Lustrous Legacy
This was a cumulative project of creating a 64 page art book. After choosing a subject that had an aspect that would allow me to "decolonize" an artform by presenting it in new light, the term consisted of extensive research and design of a layout that includes a defined system and pagination of ideas without repetition while still staying cohesive. I chose to focus on the artform of glassblowing to communicate the forgotten history of its roots in ancient Phoenician culture.
Learning Outcomes:
I learned an immense amount about book design. I learned many logistical aspects of the process of printing a book like this with a high quality print shop, in order to have the best final product, as well as employing the use of special printing techniques such as UV gloss. I also learned much about curating imagery and research as well as many new skills in InDesign on how to effectively use a grid, hang lines and other features used to create a dynamic system with professional book design.
