Whiplash Title Sequence

This is a title sequence for Whiplash (2014) directed by Damien Chazelle. The concept of the sequence is to visually capture Whiplash’s intense pacing and rhythm, representing Andrew’s struggle to succeed under the high stakes of Fletcher’s mentorship.

Process:

To visually represent the rising tension me and my teammate drew inspiration from thermal heat progressions, which we applied into the escalation of vibrancy in the color grading. We applied photographic methods such as slow shutter speed and double exposures to visualize the amplifying movement and intensity of the drumming performance.
