Waves

“Waves” tells the story of an African American family navigating love, toxic masculinity, and forgiveness. Tyler has a relentless pursuit for perfection, but in the midst of a challenge loses control and makes a mistake that ruins his life and tears apart his family. The film’s second half shifts to his sister’s journey toward forgiveness, symbolized by a watch that melts from a perfect machine into fluid metal which goes on to form another structure, representing the flawed ideals and eventual forgiveness at the heart of the story.

Process:

This project was done with photography using a canon t6 rebel and a 100mm macro lens. Starting with a clean watch, and throughout the shoot destroying it using hot glue and liquid metal.

Learning Outcomes:

This project gave me the chance to have fun with photography. It gave me the opportunity to step away from the computer and make something tangible with my hands.
