Podium Protests

In this assignment, we were given a topic to relate to the "blink of an eye" concept we had discussed in class, having to do with instincts, impulses, and subconscious judgements. From my initial topic (1968 Olympics) I had the freedom to rabbit hole into a specific area, and I chose to research further into podium protests.
Learning Outcomes:
I learned to gather research and information and translate that into my personal message. This served as my grand strategy.

Brainstorm: my given topic was the 1968 Olympics. From there, I delved into the Civil Rights Movement, the records set in that year, the branding design of the Olympics, and the podium protests that sparked that year.

Having a clear grand strategy and tactics helped me to focus on the main narrative and message. The tactics listed lie mostly in the body text and infographics I designed.

Before adding in infographics and secondary text, I laid out the title text and main pictures first, to see the possibilities of how they could flow from page to page. This version emphasized the identity design behind the Olympics but didn't deliver my message.
Image
This version focuses less on the current protests and more on the history of the movement. Though it conveys the message, it left out the current day sports protests happening, which was a significant part of the message.
Image
I eventually decided to go forward with this version because of the way the two protestors visually parallel each other as their protests did. Each image also progresses chronologically pushes the story and message forward.
