Great Photographer Series

During the first half of the term in my type 3 class, we were assigned to create an editorial piece on a selected photographer from a list provided. As a fan of his work, my chosen photographer was Saul Leiter. The editorials requirements were that it use a 3 column grid-system and was intended for saddle stitch binding, so page counts mindfully had to be divisible by four. Photos used were chosen considerably.
Learning Outcomes:
I learned how helpful sketching thumbnails before designing can be. I also learned a lot typographically. Things like proper indentation and editorial style treatment of widows was unique and new to me. In regards to the subject matter, I learned how to design sensibly towards the photographers work. This included tinting backgrounds to help the photographs used be the prime focus as well as using them to their native size and not cropping them to fit any given layout.
