Splash, Nonbinary Digital Couture XR Experience

“Splash” reimagines digital fashion creation and virtual try-ons in VR, using 3D scanning for non-standard mannequins. Capturing dynamic poses, it creates fluid, inclusive garments embodying movement and identity. Challenging gender binaries, it empowers self-expression beyond limits, fostering liberation in digital fashion.
Learning Outcomes:
In exploring digital fashion's AR try-ons, I found that using a hidden mannequin often misrepresents our bodies. Platforms like Lens Studio demand default poses—typically the T-pose or A-pose—upholding binary gender norms and ignoring body diversity. This underscores the urgent need for a paradigm shift towards embracing and accurately representing the diverse spectrum of body shapes, sizes, and gender expressions in digital fashion technology.
