Bold Wheelchair Grocery Basket is designed to reimagine the grocery shopping experience for wheelchair users. It empowers users to navigate stores hands-free, eliminating the need for heavy metal carts or balancing a basket on their lap while pushing forward. The design offers a more comfortable, independent, and dignified way to shop.
Learning Outcomes:
The hardest part of the wheelchair grocery basket project was conducting user interviews on my own. As an introverted designer, approaching strangers, especially from a specific user group, was intimidating. To push through that, I attended the Disability Expo in Downtown LA two years in a row where I challenged myself to connect with users directly and have honest, meaningful conversations. It was uncomfortable at first but ended up being one of the most rewarding parts of the process.
