Sage by Rishi

A hypothetical resort by Rishi Tea and Botanicals located in Catskill, New York that invites tea lovers and enthusiasts to learn about the history and craft of tea while creating meaningful memories and experiences that linger in their memories. Sage seeks to support each individual's needs that they wish to improve upon, whether it be their personal well-being or health.
Learning Outcomes:
The most memorable part of the process was understanding how deep-rooted tea is to its culture and creating a cohesive system that has a personality on its own but works together as a whole on a large and small scale. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that caters to people’s needs and evokes an emotion within them.

In Sanskrit, the word “rishi” means seeker, seer, and sage of truth. Inspired by the meaning of the word, Sage is an abbreviation of the words ‘seek’, ‘aroma’, ‘garden’, and ‘elements’ relating to the tagline: Seek the aroma in the garden of elements.

The four key attributes: lingering, poise, elemental, and tactile reflect the culture and history of tea. Lingering relates to how tea invokes memories and are intertwined and connected with the earth.
Image
Poise relates to the balance, presence, and composure people have when creating tea.
Image
Elemental relates to the five elements: water, earth, fire, air and aura and how tea requires all the elements of nature to be created.
Image
Tactile relates to the texture of tea leaves and how they stimulate various emotions within a person.

The colors are taken from Rishi Tea and Botanicals’ current packaging design, as well as tea leaves and the process of harvesting tea.

The graphics and patterns within the exterior and interior space of the resort enhances the tranquility of tea. Utilizing graphic elements of the system to correspond to the grace and balance of tea and its practices.

The Instagram grid allows visitors to learn more about Sage. The shape of the tea bag is used as a bounding box for images and videos to live.

The lookbook is a literal translation of a tea bag and the culture of tea done by printing on linen paper—to represent the bag itself—and Japanese stab binding to represent the tea string.

I translated the graphic elements seen throughout the lookbook and the resort into various collateral such as door hangers, coasters, and plates, found throughout the resort.
