Communication Design - Magazine Graphic Designs

This series of three magazine designs explored visual storytelling through print, each addressing a distinct theme: a favorite photographer's work, the personal concept of "home," and a sports topic of interest. The project emphasized typographic hierarchy, layout composition, and how editorial design shapes narrative communication.

Process:

I developed three separate editorial pieces, each requiring research into the subject matter and visual direction. Through iterative cycles of layout design, test printing, and refinement, I explored how typography, imagery, and spatial relationships guide reader experience. Each print review revealed how physical form affects readability and emotional resonance, leading to continuous adjustments in grid structure, pacing, and graphic elements.

Learning Outcomes:

This project strengthened my graphic design fundamentals while teaching me to approach print through an interaction designer's lens—considering how readers navigate pages, how visual rhythm creates engagement, and how layout choices direct attention. I learned that editorial design is sequential storytelling, where each spread functions as a moment in a larger experiential journey.
