Parcel Explorer - Screen based interaction for local wildlife

Screen based interaction that visually simulates the impact that AFC’s land conservancy efforts have on expanding the route and quality of life for local wildlife

Educate and encourage conversations for local, casually curious residents about the impact of AFC’s land preservation efforts on the wildlife movement routes within the Arroyo Seco area so that they are more informed about the delicate relationship between humans and local wildlife.

Process:

Our team conducted user research to identify the target audience—casually curious residents interested in sustainable practices. We then developed a comprehensive design system that paired simplified 2D navigation maps with detailed 3D visualizations to show geographic terrain and environmental impacts. Through iterative prototyping, we designed filtering systems, timeline controls, and interactive simulations that allow users to explore animal migration routes and conservation scenarios. I contributed to both the UX architecture and created custom illustrations to make the data approachable and visually cohesive.

Learning Outcomes:

This project deepened my understanding of how to translate complex datasets into intuitive visual narratives that drive meaningful engagement. I learned to balance informational density with clarity—knowing when simplicity serves the user better and when rich illustration enhances comprehension. Working collaboratively strengthened my product design thinking, teaching me to synthesize research insights, design decisions, and visual storytelling into a cohesive experience that empowers users to make informed environmental choices.
