BS in Interaction Design — Interaction DesignVivid Voices Project — Inclusive Web System
In collaboration with the Cedars-Sinai Center for Health Equity, my team worked to address the rising need for visibility within South Bay’s API LGBTQ+ communities.
The project began with interviews of three community leaders to identify the powerlessness felt by LGBTQ+ Asian Americans. Through affinity mapping and cultural research, I synthesized insights revealing three core issues: cultural tradition conflicts, underrepresentation, and invisibility. Competitive analysis of existing platforms revealed they treat storytelling as a single act rather than a structured process. I developed a UX strategy framework addressing each issue through design interventions, resulting in a guided storytelling platform that breaks memories into gentle sections, generates illustrated postcards and zines, connects users to LGBTQ+ AANHPI history, and transforms personal narratives into policy briefs for local advocacy—bridging personal experience with political action.
Learning Outcomes:
This project deepened my understanding of community-centered design by teaching me how to translate lived experiences into actionable design solutions through direct engagement with marginalized communities. I also developed skills in cross-disciplinary collaboration, working alongside graphic designers, community leaders, and healthcare partners to create a platform that bridges personal storytelling with policy advocacy.
