BLOOM
BLOOM is a site-specific collaboration between H-LAB, Kou Yamamoto (nouseskou), and the internationally renowned teamLAB. This immersive experience uses projection mapping to transform the Huntington's Japanese Gardens with Yamamoto's dynamic style. Inspired by Yamamoto's explorations of the void and infinity, BLOOM dissolves the boundaries between the physical and digital realms. The projected visuals will respond to the garden's natural elements, creating a multisensory landscape.
Learning Outcomes:
In this project, I learned to create a graphic language that pays homage to an artist without undercutting their work through direct reproduction. Because I can easily recreate his generative video style through TouchDesigner, I needed to learn the fine line between replication and reference. I found that paying respect best starts from intentionally reading his artistic statement to understand his work and to create something that emphasizes his motives without directly using his style.
