Atomic Sans
For this project, I was asked to create a modular typeface. This involved the execution of 26 letters, 10 numerals, and a specific phrase that corresponds to the subject matter of the font. This was the final project of the class, and involved the printing of two 3 ft x 6 ft posters, one a positive version and the other a negative.
Learning Outcomes:
In the process of creating my modular typeface, I thought a lot about what the concept of modularity entails. A modular design involves the formation and accumulation of small units to create a larger whole. With this definition in mind, I immediately began to draw similarities between atoms and letters, each of which may be conceptualized as types of modules. As stated in the studies below, a singular atom is to matter as an individual letterform is to language.
