firsthand
Firsthand casts a spotlight on twelve indigenous artists of the American Southwest. This multi-media exhibition features works of photography, drawing, painting, print-making, ceramics, fiber art, sculpture and fashion design. This project was not only designed to promote indigenous representation in the arts, but also to pay homage to the region that I grew up in.To access a full digital copy, click here: https://online.fliphtml5.com/dhyql/vhcq/?1682380704828#p=1
Learning Outcomes:
In the process of curating the visual identity system of this exhibition, I learned how to use physical landscapes as a driving force for visual form. I was inspired by the saturated, yet earthy hues that are present in the desert landscapes of the region. It is of utmost importance to me that the inspiration behind this project’s formal elements does not appropriate Indigenous motifs, but rather, references these cultures in a metaphorical sense.
