Life Cycles
For this project, I was asked to select an existing art exhibition that is of interest to me, then create a corresponding book, poster series and museum title wall design. I decided to choose Life Cycles, an exhibition at Japan House Los Angeles that features the bamboo art of Tanabe Chikuunsai IV. Learning Outcomes:
I gained lots of practice in translating the subject matter of an exhibition into typographic form and expression. The featured artist’s process of weaving bamboo is intimate, ancestral, and environmental; these were points of beauty that I wanted to showcase in the interior spreads of the book design. I chose to arrange the layouts in a way that is minimalist, sophisticated, and organic, as these are all adjectives that I attribute to the material of bamboo itself.
