Today, it is estimated that Americans spend over 90% of their lives indoors. Screen-based creatives—including graphic designers—are acutely aware of this reality. So; what would happen if creatives began to prioritize spending time outdoors? The natural environment is a wellspring of creative inspiration that should not be taken for granted. It is time to re-wild the design process, and restore balance to the hyper-digital state of our discipline; this is the ethos of terra x graphia.
Learning Outcomes:
Through the process of conducting this graduate thesis project, I had the opportunity to pursue a topic that fuses my undergraduate degree in Environmental Analysis with my graduate degree in Graphic Design. As a result, I have had the opportunity to write and design a methodology that is rooted in the themes of environmental immersion, interdisciplinary exploration, and experimentation. I cannot wait to see how this framework continues to unfold in my personal design practice.
