Burning Blue

This is a zine project done in Communication Design2. I was assigned to create a zine with contrasting ideas which I chose was a Conceptual artist named Joseph Beuys and Haenyeos, female divers in a Korean island called Jeju Island. Haenyeos dive deep into the water to hunt for sea animals for a living, and the zine focuses on how Joseph Beuys and Haenyeos’ spiritual beliefs and rituals for survival. I had a chance be an art direct for the whole process of image making and design delivery.
Learning Outcomes:
I learned how to make people feel something out of graphic design. Especially because I was asked to use a topic that feels personal. Exaggeration of color, image-making, design, and the whole process was to create emotional reactions. I made my own photograph, used image transfer techniques to create textures on images, and scanned "unconventional" materials such as seaweeds and oil pastels. The whole creative process was a lot of fun.
