The Criterion Collection

The Criterion Collection celebrates a deep love for cinema. It invites new audiences into the rich world of film, making timeless stories accessible and relevant.

Through thoughtful design, curated context, and a visual language that sparks curiosity, the identity becomes more than presentation; it becomes a portal into the art of filmmaking and the joy of watching.

Process:

A resource for novice to aficionado.

Inspired by the elements of film that often go unnoticed at first glance, this explores the hidden structures that shape the cinematic experience. The typographic system takes inspiration from the layout and pacing of screenplay formatting, allowing dialogue, direction, and structure to inform the visual hierarchy. Each film is paired with a distinct color palette that reflects its tone and atmosphere, turning color into an immediate visual shorthand for the film’s identity. Different approaches to cinematography, such as framing, perspective, and movement, are used to activate the poster compositions, creating layouts that feel dynamic and cinematic rather than static.
