INT-152 Design 2: Structure & Color

Art Nouveau Composition Symmetrical

I searched for some information about this art style and found that this style places great emphasis on natural contour lines, highlighting curves and organic lines. One of the representative artists is Mucha. His works are very elegant in terms of lines and colors. I noticed that he used a lot of flower elements in his works, which I like very much. So I also tried to use flowers as the main element in my work.

I chose carnation because its petals are complex and have very beautiful lines. I don't want to just draw the blooming shapes of the flowers, but I want to show the process of a flower from bud to bloom, including the growth process of its leaves. Regarding the choice of colors, I observed Mucha’s works, selected some colors.

Final color palette I combined the with Japanese paintings of the same period, like U-kiyoe(because it influences Art Nouveau a lot), and finally selected some colors with Asian charm to match.

Final Work I not only show flowers and leaves of different periods by the different shapes of flowers and leaves but also use color changes to show their growth.
