For the first assignment leading up to the midterm, we chose between candidates for a rebranding. I selected LAMAG, a local art gallery with free admission. Because the gallery focuses on inclusion, I picked "melting pot", "art as bridge", and "art as universal language" as visual metaphors. For each, I wanted to kick off a design language that has "enough legs" to be used for an entire campaign.
Learning Outcomes:
This was the first time I went through such a rigorous thought process to decide on a design concept. I learned first of all what a metaphor really is and how to convey it visually with graphic elements as it relates to a business. I also learned how to think ahead about what to do if the concept is green-lit and more posters are requested. It's important not to pigeonhole.
